Laser Therapy is also called Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). It entails the use of red and near infra-red light being applied over injuries or lesions. LLLT has a proven track record with hundreds of randomized clinical trials published, more than half of which focus on its ability to ease pain. LLLT is a safe and effective means of treating several types of pathologies.

This type of non-invasive therapy can be used to:

- Improve & accelerate tissue repair
- Reduce pain
- Reduce inflammation in both acute or chronic conditions

LLLT is commonly used to treat:

- Sports injuries
- Naturopathic pain syndromes
- Arthritic joints
- Back & neck pain

Studies of LLLT have shown a positive affect on cellular activity including:

- Stimulating cell growth
- Increasing cell metabolism
- Reducing edema & the formation of fibrous tissue
- Stimulating the long-term production of nitric oxide
- Stimulating the production of endorphins
- Improving cell regeneration
- Encouraging an anti-inflammatory response
- Stimulating nerve function
- Reducing the production of substance P
- Decreasing the formation of bradykinin, histamin & acetylcholine

This list of photo-biological reactions represents the predominant reasons for the pain-relieving effects frequently seen in patients treated with LLLT.

Needle-less Acupuncture

Over 2000 years ago Chinese doctors recognized that the ear could be used as a diagnostic tool. Nevertheless, not until the 1950s was this form of micro-system acupuncture was researched and developed by Dr. Paul Nogier a French neurologist. It is practiced on the outer ear and has been extensively studiedly and clinically utilized by French, and German neurologists and well as Chinese medical professionals.

In my practice I also use laser to perform laser acupuncture. This is particularly useful for patients who have fear of needles.
